8 Facts You Need to Know about Dinga Dinga Virus

A mysterious disease called Dinga Dinga, characterized by uncontrollable shaking resembling dance-like movements, has surfaced in Uganda's Bundibugyo district.

The illness primarily affects women and girls, with nearly 300 cases reported so far, though a few men have also been affected.

Symptoms include intense body shaking, difficulty walking, and, in some cases, paralysis. The shaking can make even basic movements nearly impossible.

The exact cause of Dinga Dinga is not yet identified, and health experts are actively investigating the disease.

Patients are being treated with antibiotics, which have shown promising results. Most patients recover within a week, according to Dr. Kiyita Christopher, the district health officer.

Residents are advised to watch for symptoms such as fever and body tremors and seek medical help immediately if they appear.

Health authorities recommend maintaining good hygiene, avoiding contact with infected individuals, and promptly reporting new cases to local health teams.

Although there have been no fatalities, the rapid spread of the disease has drawn significant attention from health authorities and the public.
