The word ‘Triphala’ is a combination of 2 Sanskrit words – tri (three) + phala (fruits). In English, it simply means three fruits. So, triphala in Ayurveda is a herbal remedy (or polyherbal medicine) and a mixture of three dried fruits. They are – Amla (Emblica Officinalis), also called Indian gooseberry, Bibhitaki, and Haritaki.
