Amazon India has taken a significant step in expanding its healthcare portfolio with the launch of Amazon Diagnostics, an at-home diagnostics service in partnership with Orange Health Labs. This new offering allows customers to book lab tests, schedule appointments, and access digital reports seamlessly through the Amazon app, reinforcing the company’s vision of building a comprehensive digital healthcare platform under the Amazon Medical umbrella.
Amazon Diagnostics: A New Era of Convenient Healthcare
Amazon Diagnostics is currently available in six major Indian cities—Bengaluru, Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Mumbai, and Hyderabad—covering over 450 PIN codes. The service offers access to more than 800 diagnostic tests, ranging from routine health checkups like Complete Blood Count (CBC) to specialized tests. Customers can schedule doorstep sample collection between 6 AM and 9 PM, with Orange Health Labs promising pickup within 60 minutes of booking in select areas. For routine tests, digital reports are delivered via the Amazon app in as little as six hours, ensuring speed and convenience.
This initiative builds on Amazon India’s existing healthcare services, Amazon Pharmacy and Amazon Clinic, which provide medicine delivery and virtual doctor consultations, respectively.
“Amazon Diagnostics completes the outpatient loop by connecting testing with doctor consultation and medicine delivery, all accessible through the Amazon app,” said Jayaramakrishnan Balasubramanian, Category Leader for Amazon Medical. “Our focus is on delivering a superior customer experience with reliability and trust, not just competing on price.”
Amazon At Home Diagnostics Partnership with Orange Health Labs
The collaboration with Orange Health Labs, a Bengaluru-based diagnostics provider founded in 2020, brings clinical expertise and operational efficiency to the table. Orange Health Labs, backed by investors like Accel, General Catalyst, Bertelsmann India, and Y Combinator, has raised over $50 million and operates seven accredited labs. The company is known for its rapid diagnostics model, with Dhruv Gupta, Co-founder of Orange Health Labs, claiming it operates “the world’s fastest reverse logistics system for blood samples” with high automation and two-tier doctor reviews for clinical accuracy.
“We’ve always admired Amazon’s innovation and customer obsession,” Gupta said. “Partnering with them affirms the trust Orange Health has earned in less than five years. Together, we aim to deliver an even faster and more reliable diagnostics experience for people across India.”
Amazon’s Smbhav Venture Fund led a $12 million funding round for Orange Health Labs in December 2024, signaling confidence in the startup’s ability to scale diagnostics services. This partnership leverages Amazon’s vast logistics network and app ecosystem with Orange Health’s diagnostic infrastructure to address critical challenges like long wait times, inconsistent service quality, and accessibility gaps in India’s diagnostics landscape.

Tapping into India’s Growing Diagnostics Market
India’s diagnostics market, valued at approximately $15 billion in 2024, is growing at a 15% annual rate, driven by rising demand for convenient and digitized healthcare solutions post-COVID-19.
Amazon Diagnostics enters a competitive space with players like Thyrocare (owned by PharmEasy), Tata 1mg, Dr Lal Path Labs, Apollo Diagnostics, and Redcliffe Labs.
However, Amazon’s integrated platform, which combines diagnostics, pharmacy, and teleconsultations, positions it uniquely to capture market share, particularly among its existing customer base.
Industry analysts see significant potential in this move. “Amazon’s ability to combine diagnostics, pharmacy, and telehealth under one platform positions it as a formidable player in India’s healthcare space,” said Priya Sharma, a Delhi-based healthcare technology analyst. The company’s focus on preventive healthcare, such as regular testing for non-communicable diseases like diabetes and cardiac conditions, aligns with the growing but under-penetrated preventive diagnostics segment, which currently accounts for just 12% of the market.

Amazon At Home Diagnostics: Challenges and Opportunities
While Amazon Diagnostics promises convenience, it faces challenges in a market where 85% of diagnostic testing is illness-driven rather than preventive. Convincing consumers to adopt regular health checkups remains a hurdle, particularly in a price-sensitive market where trust in diagnostics is paramount. Balasubramanian emphasized that Amazon is not pursuing a discount-led strategy, instead prioritizing quality and integration. “Customers often associate price with reliability in healthcare. We’re focused on delivering a seamless experience at market price parity,” he said.
Posts on X reflect mixed sentiment, with some praising the convenience of Amazon’s service while others question its ability to compete with established players. A post by @ThePrintIndia highlighted key challenges, noting that Amazon must deliver on its promises of speed and reliability to gain traction in a crowded market.
A Long-Term Vision
Amazon India views healthcare as a “multi-decadal” opportunity, with diagnostics being a critical piece of its broader Amazon Medical strategy. The company’s pharmacy arm, launched two years ago, already offers same-day delivery in 23 cities, while Amazon Clinic has doubled its user base in the past six months, particularly in pediatric and veterinary care. By integrating diagnostics, Amazon aims to create a one-stop healthcare platform that leverages its logistics prowess and customer trust.
As Amazon Diagnostics scales, its success will depend on maintaining service quality, expanding to more cities, and building consumer trust in a fragmented market. With Orange Health Labs’ expertise and Amazon’s operational strength, this partnership could redefine at-home diagnostics in India, making healthcare more accessible and efficient for millions.
