Since the introduction of the Corona vaccine Covishield, there has been considerable speculation about its potential side effect of blood clotting. This speculation escalated to suspicion when young and healthy individuals across India and the World experienced sudden health issues, such as heart attacks and brain hemorrhages due to blood clotting. While these speculations were initially dismissed as myths or assumptions, it appears that we now have a news update on the Covishield vaccine blood clotting side effects directly from the source.
Now Manufacturer Accepts Covishield Vaccine Blood Clotting Side Effects
As reported by The Telegraph, AstraZeneca, the manufacturer of Covishield acknowledged in court documents in February 2024 that its Covid vaccine could cause rare side effects.
The pharmaceutical company is embroiled in a legal battle regarding a class-action lawsuit alleging that its Covid-19 vaccine, developed in partnership with the University of Oxford, led to fatalities and serious injuries, including Thrombosis with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (TTS), characterized by blood clotting and low platelet counts.
AstraZeneca, in collaboration with The University of Oxford, had developed the AZD1222 vaccine following the Covid outbreak in 2020. Marketed as “Covishield” in India and other low- and middle-income countries, it was distributed by the Serum Institute of India (SII) under license from both the university and the Swedish-British drugmaker.
What is the Legal Case against Covishield Vaccine Manufacturer AstraZeneca?
It all started in 2023. The initial case was brought in 2023 by Jamie Scott, who sustained a permanent brain injury after developing a blood clot and brain hemorrhage since receiving the vaccine in April 2021. In a response letter sent in May 2023, AstraZeneca informed Mr. Scott’s legal representatives that “we do not accept that TTS is caused by the vaccine at a generic level.” The next case was of Mrs Alpa Tailor (35) brought up by her widower.
Kate Scott, Mr. Scott’s spouse, stated to The Telegraph,
“The medical community has long acknowledged that VITT (vaccine-induced immune thrombosis with thrombocytopenia) was caused by the vaccine. It’s only AstraZeneca that has questioned whether Jamie’s condition was vaccine-induced… It’s taken three years for this admission to come. It’s progress, but we would like to see more from them and the Government. It’s time for things to move more quickly.”
“I hope their admission means we will be able to sort this out sooner rather than later. We need an apology, fair compensation for our family and other families who have been affected. We have the truth on our side, and we are not going to give up,” Kate emphasized.
“Patient safety is our highest priority,” AstraZeneca stated in a statement. “Our sympathies go out to anyone who has lost loved ones or reported health problems. Regulatory authorities have clear and stringent standards to ensure the safe use of all medicines, including vaccines.”
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the vaccine was deemed “safe and effective for all individuals aged 18 and above,” with the adverse effect prompting legal action being “very rare.”
