What is Rajgira?

Rajgira (Ramdana and Chaulai) is considered a superfood. Rajgira is a seed that is classified as a pseudo-cereal in the United States. However, it isn’t considered a grain in India.  That’s why we eat it when we’re fasting.

Amaranth has been grown as a grain for 8,000 years and is also a native species of South America’s Andean area, including Argentina, Peru, and Bolivia, where it is known as “kiwicha.” Amaranth is now commonly planted throughout the Andes.

Nutritional Profile of Amaranth

  • Protein – Rajgira is one of the world’s top sources of vegetable protein. It contains one of the greatest protein contents and is also less difficult for the human body to absorb.
  • Lysine – Lysine, an essential amino acid, is found in amaranth. Lysine has a lot of protein, much more than milk.
  • Calcium – Rajgira has a calcium concentration that is more than 4 times higher than other grains. It has more calcium than milk in reality.
  • Minerals – Iron, zinc, magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium are all abundant in Rajgira. Amaranth grain contains 6 to 10% unsaturated oil, which is beneficial to one’s health.
  • Vitamin C – Amaranth grain is also high in vitamin C.

Health benefits of Amaranth

  • Easy to digest protein – Rajgira has 13% protein. This amounts to 26 grams per cup of raw Rajgira, which is significantly more than other grains. Rajgira’s protein is commonly known as “complete protein” since it includes lysine, an amino acid that aids in the development of body muscles.
  • Weight loss – Amaranth helps you feel satisfied for longer and reduces the need for regular unhealthy eating since it is strong in fiber and slow to digest.
  • Helps prevent cancer – Amaranth contains antioxidants that protect cells from oxidative damage. Reduced cell mutation into malignant cells results from this.
  • Fights inflammation – Amaranth contains anti-inflammatory properties which help in reducing chronic pain brought on by diabetes, gout, and arthritis. The inclusion of certain peptides is what gives it its anti-inflammatory capabilities.
  • Supports digestion – Amaranth is a grain high in fiber that supports digestive health and guarantees regular bowel movements.
