Knee pain is a common complaint that affects people of all ages. Knee pain may be the result of an injury, such as a ruptured ligament or torn cartilage. Medical conditions including arthritis, gout, and infections also can cause knee pain. Many types of minor knee pain respond well to self-care measures. Let’s know about the Home Remedies For Knee Joint Pain are-
Rest
Take a break from your normal activities to reduce repetitive strain on your knee, give the injury time to heal, and help prevent further damage.
Inflammation
When you suffer a joint injury, maybe a banged-up knee or a twisted ankle, a little inflammation is part of the healing process. Puffy, red, tender joints may indicate that your immune system is working to remove damage and promote the growth of new tissue, a healthy kind of inflammation.
Chronic inflammation in the joints can damage cartilage, bones, tendons (which attach muscle to bones), or ligaments (which hold joints together); irritate nerves; and produce a long list of symptoms, including pain, swelling, and stiffness. The joint damage may be progressive and irreversible. People may treat mild to moderate knee pain with over-the-counter (OTC) medications, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or acetaminophen. NSAIDs relieve inflammation and help with pain management. Some types of NSAIDs are available OTC to treat mild to moderate pain. (Source)

Heat
The heat helps loosen tight muscles and joints and relieves pain and muscle spasms. If you have swelling, it’s best to use ice for 24 hours, then switch to heat. If swelling isn’t a problem, it’s fine to use heat when you first notice knee pain.
Elevation
Elevating the affected leg can help reduce blood flow to the knee, helping to alleviate inflammation, swelling, and discomfort. The affected leg should be elevated above the heart. Elevation works to reduce knee swelling by helping the excess fluid drain back into the body’s system. To be most effective, the affected area should be higher than the level of the heart e.g. for knee swelling the most effective way is to lie down flat with your leg raised supported on pillows.
Compression
Knee compression sleeves have been proven in many studies to be effective in managing knee pain from osteoarthritis. The compression of a knee sleeve provides increased blood flow to the area to reduce pain and help reduce swelling after workouts. Compression garments aid recovery after exercise, particularly after strength exercises.
Use ice
If there is swelling in your knee, you should ice for at least 72 hours until the swelling goes down. After that, heat can be used to help regain mobility. Applying an ice pack to the sore area decreases blood flow, which relieves pain and inflammation. Inflammation can cause swelling around your joint, making it feel stiff. When you use ice, stiffness is less likely to be a problem. Ice is most helpful when it’s used for the first 24 hours after knee pain starts.
Ginger
Ginger can reduce the activity of several chemical substances that promote joint inflammation. Its role in treating participants with osteoarthritis found that it has a high safety profile and can have moderately beneficial effects in reducing pain and disability.
Lavender oil
Aromatherapy massage with lavender essential oil was found effective in relieving pain in patients with knee osteoarthritis. But lavender also seems to help directly with chronic joint pain. In a study of 90 patients with OA of the knee, the pain severity of the group that was given a massage with lavender essential oil was immediately and significantly improved compared to the placebo groups.
Lemongrass
Joint inflammation is caused by the production of uric acid in the joints. Drinking lemon water may help to reduce inflammation. Lemon fruit is a rich source of nutrients, antioxidants, and enzymes that help to flush out toxins present in our bodies. A 2017 study looked at the effects of lemongrass essential oil on 30 people, between 35–70 years old, with rheumatoid arthritis. The researchers gave each person 3 milligrams of lemongrass essential oil to apply for 30 days. Over time, the participants reported less pain.
