PresVu, a revolutionary eye drop, has been launched in India, offering a potential alternative to reading glasses for middle-aged individuals.
Know all about PresVu, the Eye Drop that Can Replace your Glasses
Developed by Mumbai-based Entod Pharmaceuticals, PresVu offers a non-invasive solution for presbyopia, enhancing near vision without the need for reading glasses. A single vial, designed to last about a month, is priced at Rs 345 and will be available in pharmacies nationwide by October.
Approved by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) last month, PresVu is the first of its kind in the country. The pharmaceutical company has already secured approval for the eye drop from the Subject Expert Committee of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO).
Containing 1.25 percent pilocarpine hydrochloride—a compound long used in treating various eye conditions—PresVu specifically targets presbyopia. This common age-related vision issue affects those over 40, causing a gradual decline in the ability to focus on nearby objects.
The Research Behind PresVu
CEO Nikhil Masurkar of Entod Pharmaceuticals shared that the launch in India follows years of research that started in 2019, with nearly 45 percent of Indians over 40 potentially benefiting from the drug.
Data from phase 3 clinical trials—conducted on 250 patients across 10 sites—submitted to the DCGI indicates that the drug is most effective for individuals aged 40 to 55 with mild-to-moderate presbyopia, providing temporary correction of vision issues.
The eye drop should only be used under an ophthalmologist’s prescription. The recommended dosage is one drop in each eye daily, with the effects lasting approximately six hours.
If needed, an additional drop can be administered three to six hours after the first application, potentially extending clear vision for another three hours.
