Nutritional profile of Revand Chini

Indian Rhubarb is primarily utilized for its root, which contains a variety of active chemicals such as anthraquinones, tannins, and stilbenes. These components contribute to its therapeutic effects and are the focus of Ayurvedic medicine’s traditional use.

It is loaded with nutrients and minerals including protein, fat, fiber, carbs, and vitamins and minerals like calcium, phosphorus, iron, and vitamin C. It also contains bioactive chemicals such as emodin, emodin-3-monomethyl ether, chrysophanol, aloe-emodin, and rhein. In the free form, they are known as quinone, anthrone, or dianthrone glycosides. Uses of Revand Chini

  • Rhubarb is used to treat constipation due to its cathartic, purgative, and laxative effects in varying doses.
  • Rhubarb is used to treat jaundice and liver diseases. It acts as a liver tonic, increasing bile production in the liver. It helps in weight and fat loss.
  • It is used to treat failing urination due to its diuretic activity. The root powder is administered at extremely low levels for 1-2 years in chronic renal failure.
  • Uremia is treated with a decoction of one gram of Revand chini in 100 ml water. Uraemia is characterized by an increase in the levels of urea and other nitrogenous waste components in the blood that are typically removed by the kidneys.
  • Externally, a root powder and Chandan paste are used for pimples, acne, and pigmentation. Topical applications are also utilized to speed up wound healing.
